What is it, Mindful Tricks?
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you’re having a terrific day! Let’s breathe and smile.
When I started practicing mindfulness techniques over 3 decades ago, my goals were very practical. There was nothing divine or spiritual about my practice. I used it for my mind just like we use physical training for the body. I am not saying it’s write or wrong, but it was my way. My friend called me a fakir, not a yogi. Later though it brought me to Taoist philosophy. But I still like practical application of these techniques.
Ancient warriors used it. And it is not some Woodoo. Many of these techniques can be found in NLP.
I teach some of them during my stress reduction workshops. But you know, I’ve used them myself.
I will share my experience, and it will make myself look like a total moron. All right?
Do you like flying in the airplane? I don’t. I think I am not the only one. My mom is terrified by airplanes. I think I got it from her. What if I need to fly?
Well, reasoning may work to some extent. Looking at the flight attendants, they’ve done it a lot, right? So it will be OK!
When the airplane is already in the air, I am kind of committed, right? So again, reasoning with myself works. No need to worry, I cannot change anything now.
But I don’t like a bumpy flight. All that shaking at 30,000 feet is not very comfortable. That was when meditation really helped. But I don’t tell myself that I am calm and everything will be fine. Instead of fighting with my own emotions, I tell myself that I am driving, and the road is bumpy. I close my eyes and create an image of a bumpy ride. As funny as it may sound, it works for me. Try it sometimes.
Maybe come to my class some time, I will show you few practical meditation tricks . I’ll take more later.
Thanks for stopping by.
