Crucial Mindfulness may Save Our Life
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope life is treating you great! Let’s breathe and smile.
I was driving on a freeway today, and I saw a marquee board that said “Don’t multitask. Drive. Just drive”. Good advice, by the way.
You know, I am guilty in multitasking. Dialing the phone number, reading or sending a text, looking for directions, etc. And this is not entirely the smart phone issue, like some people may think. There were accidents before where people were found dead in their cars with large paper maps over their faces. At least the phone can talk, as annoying as it can sound. And every time I’ve done it, I thought, “I got a total control over my driving and the road.”
Many years ago my mom said to me, “Unloaded gun shoots once a year.” At that time I did not pay much attention to it. I wish I did.
But the older I grow, the more I realize that’s true. And not just about the gun, even though we were trained in the military to never ever ever point the gun at our own people, even if we were 100% sure the gun was empty.
What my mom told me was a metaphor. We are often so sure that whatever we’re doing is 100% safe. And not just with driving. Of course, accidents happen. Stuff happens, you saw a bumper sticker, right? But we are so confident it won’t happen to us. We have this sense of security, a belief about our own personal immunity.
I hope everything will be all right. Always. But here’s a reminder for myself: don’t play with unloaded gun, otherwise life can turn into a Russian roulette with one bullet in a revolver. Think about that.
Thanks for stopping by.
