Risky Meditation?
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you are having a terrific day! Let’s breathe and smile.
Today is the last day of March, an I think it’s a good time to tell you another ancient tale.
There were two monks walking on the forest trail. And at some point they had to cross a pretty wide river. Once they got to the crossing point, they saw a woman who tried to cross the river too. However the current was rather strong, and she could not do it on her own.
One monk offered help. He easily put the woman on his shoulders, took whatever she was carrying in her hands, and crossed the river. On the other side he put the woman back on the ground, and they went different directions.
Two days later, the second monk said, “I still cannot believe, brother, that you touched a woman. Don’t you know it is forbidden by our code?”
“I helped another human who needed help,” the other monk answered. “I left that woman behind, right after I helped her get across the river, but you have been carrying her in your mind for two days. Why?”
I read a quote that said, “Don’t worry about what I am doing. Worry about why you are worried about what I am doing.”
I was reading a book called “Stillness speaks”. It talks about ego. The ego sees no difference between positive and negative to create the illusion of control and not letting go of the past, whatever that past may be. That’s why even great intentions may become the greatest obstacles in a way of spiritual growth.
We’ll talk about it more in the future because I think it is quite interesting topic.
Here’s a book I mentioned:
