Two Minutes About Dangerous Perfectionism:
Good morning, folks! I am Jin with Morning Mindfulness Podcast. Hope you are having a terrific day! Let’s breathe and smile.
There’s an amazing book “Magic of Thinking Big”. It talks about failure diseases: detalitis, excusitis and procrastination. This is a must read book if you care about your own success. I wish I read it 30 years ago.
When I was growing up, I got all three of these diseases. I won’t go into details, I was discussing it already in my other episodes. Today I’d like to discuss my observation about my own personal trait, which is perfectionism. You may or may not relate. I grew up measuring and calculating everything. I had to know exact process from start to finish before getting into anything. Thanks God I educated myself enough to recognize the downside of it.
This is what I discovered so far about myself. Again, this is my story.
– Perfectionist is a great procrastinator. Everything has to be perfect, circumstances, plan of action etc. In reality it never is.
– Perfectionist is very rigid implementing any ideas. If it has to be done, here’s the only way to do it. Sometimes I still have to face it even today.
– Next one took me a while to recognize. Perfectionist cannot tolerate failure and criticizing. That’s why I’d rather not get involved in something I can potentially not be perfect in. Here’s where excusitis comes in disguised as a freedom of choice. Yes, our mind can rationalize anything, and I am guilty of that.
How many times I said I liked or did not like something. Was it really so or did I make myself believe that I did not like something I could potentially fail in? Just a thought. You may borrow it and think about what you like or don’t like and why?
Here’s a book I was talking about. You can get a FREE audiobook at Audible through Amazon:
